Christopher Madden (born 1952)

Chris Madden is a Durham-born cartoonist, illustrator, photographer, ceramicist and writer, whose career has spanned over 30 years. His work is informed by a keen interest in environmental issues, philosophy, science – and, of course, art.

Chris Madden’s cartoons have appeared in newspapers and magazines such as the
Daily Telegraph, Private Eye, The Spectator, The New Statesman, Punch, The Listener and The Oldie. In the 1980s and 1990s, he contributed regularly to the Guardian. For many years, he produced gardening themed cartoons for the Irish newspaper, the Sunday Independent. These cartoons were published as a collection in his book, A Funny Year in Gardening (2006).
