In oil and in watercolour (as shown by this fresh bright example) Henry Moore is the artist of sea and sky. The 1937 catalogue of the great Nettlefold Collection states 'It can be truly said of him that no English painter of the sea has attained a higher eminence in the opinion of his contemporaries'. I first sold this sparkling watercolour in 1984 during my first exhibition in Ryder Street: '180 Years of the Royal Watercolour Society'. It was bought by one of the great post-war restaurateurs and it has emerged from his deceased estate in the pristine condition that it was sold 34 years ago. It should now go to another discerning and responsible collector.
