Is this a case for VAR? I do not want to add to the pressures that football referees are under over the festive season, but what is going on here? Is there a clear case for a penalty or is it synchronised diving! 'Louis Wain's Sporting Life' was a chapter in my 2011 biography of Louis Wain: https://www.chrisbeetles.com/book/48/louis-wain-s-cats-2011-hardback "The sporting field is used by Louis Wain not so much for adulation of victory, or even triumph of the Corinthian spirit, but for the comic possibilities of trying too hard to win as his cats risk loss, climactic failure and injury on their field of dreams." This illustration will first appear in an exhibition at the gallery of 'Dogs In Art' to coincide with Crufts in the first week of March. It will be displayed again in our popular annual 'Louis Wain and Cat Art' show in September. By then perhaps a full length feature film dramatising the life of Louis Wain may be on general release, adding to his growing popularity. It features the talented Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. A succinct overview of a lecture on Wain that I gave at the British Library last year has appeared in Digital Arts Online: https://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/features/illustration/100-years-before-cats-conquered-internet-louis-wain-built-whole-cat-world/ Remember, Louis Wain is not just for Christmas, so please contact the gallery for further details.
