Schwabe was in charing, kent, between 21 august and 12 september 1931. however, two days after his arrival, he broke his left arm 'falling off the back of hugh's [jones] motorcycle coming back from ashford just near the house' (diary), and had to spend a night in ashford hospital. the present work testifies that, with his right arm intact, he was still able to draw.
