ILLUSTRATED: NOBODYS PERFECT, BRITISH SITCOM ,1979
Nobody's Perfect was the British adaptation of the highly successful American sitcom Maude a spin-off from All In The Family, the US version of Till Death Us Do Part. LWT had acquired the option on a British version of Maude and wanted the vociferous-voiced American actress Elaine Stritch for the role. On reading the scripts however, Stritch felt that Maude's character did not suit her style, and after various British writers were asked to adapt them said that she would write it herself, which she did, despite no prior writing experience.
Stritch played the part of Bill, an American woman eight years into her second marriage who exercises a biting wit, usually aimed at Sam, her husband but sometimes at their neighbour Henry Armstrong or their woman 'who does', Mrs Whicker. The 14 episodes depicted the Hoopers' at times bumpy marriage and the usual crop of marital misunderstandings.
The opening sequence featured cartoons by Hirschfeld, who was a personal friend of Stritch's.
