The Breaking Point (Michael Curtiz, USA, 1950) was the second, and more faithful, film version of Ernest Hemingway's novel To Have and Have Not (1937). Harry Morgan (John Garfield) is a penniless fishing hire proprietor, whose business is failing. As a result, he begins to work with a disreputable lawyer, who persuades him to run illegal immigrants into California.
