The screenplay for Whirlpool (Otto Preminger, USA, 1949) was by Ben Hecht (under the blacklist pseudonym Lester Barlow) and Andrew Solt, from Guy Endore's Methinks the Lady (1946). The wife (Anne Sutton) of a successful psychoanalyst (Richard Conte) falls prey to a devious hypnotist (Jose Ferrer) when he discovers that she is a shoplifter.
