Bridget Boland based her screenplay for The Lost People (Muriel Box and Bernard Knowles, UK, 1949) on her stageplay, Cockpit (1948), which was an early forerunner of the vogue for environmental theatre. It concerns two British soldiers (Dennis Price and William Hartnell), who are holding a disparate and hostile band of refugees in a German theatre after the Second World War.
