'THE SCHWABE FAMILY AND THEIR FRIENDS THE BASSETTS SPENT THE SUMMER MONTHS IN A GUEST-HOUSE IN THE SMALL DORSET VILLAGE OF CERNE ABBAS. THEY STAYED AT THE PITCH MARKET, FACING THE CHURCH DOOR IN ABBEY STREET, A HALF-TIMBERED HOUSE, WITH A LITTLE FIFTEENTH-CENTURY CARVING AND TWO FIFTEENTH-CENTURY FIREPLACES.'
