An annual exhibition at Chris Beetles Gallery, ‘The Illustrators’ is the largest and most popular annual event worldwide for cartoon and illustration collectors. This catalogue accompanied The Illustrators 1837-2015, which surveys the fascinating history of British illustration from the celebrated Victorian cartoonist and illustrator, John Tenniel, to the penetrating contemporary caricaturist, Jonathan Cusick. In addition, it provides the opportunity to evaluate the parallel tradition of North American cartooning and illustrating, from a lively portrait study by the early twentieth-century artist, James Montgomery Flagg, to sharp political satires by Kal.
