The Schoolmaster at Home
Lord Palmerston was both an inveterate correspondent and emphatic on the importance of a legible handwriting' ( Pam and the Three Rs', Punch,
14 January 1865, page 15). As a result of this reputation, Tenniel depicts him as a schoolmaster ready to give a lesson in letter-writing' to his pupil', the Foreign Secretary, Lord Russell.
