'Swaff' was the nickname of journalist and drama critic, Hannen Swaffer (1879-1962). Despite having strong left wing views, he worked for many of Lord Northcliffe's publications including, the Daily Mail, the Daily Mirror, the Daily Sketch, the Daily Graphic and The Sunday Times. He was also interested in Spiritualism and a avid opponent of capital punishment.

Drawn on the reverse of a letter dated Jan 23rd '26:
My Dear Fiesco,
I suppose you've been wondering what the blazes I've been doing with your little booklet. Well, you're wrong, I haven't!
Anyway I'm enclosing it with this letter and hope it reaches you safely.
Hoping your dinner will prove a great success.
Yours Strube
