A princess is turned into a raven and is doomed to live forever in a dark wood. a young man riding through the forest hears her sad call and she tells him that if he takes shelter in the old woman's house nearby and refuses the food and drink he is offered the curse will be broken and she will be freed. however he fails this task on three consecutive nights and has to resort to his own cunning to eventually rescue her.
