Jeremy Banks (born 1959), known as ‘Banx’

Pocket Cartoonist for the Financial Times since 1989, Jeremy Banks has reached a worldwide audience from 1997 through the animated series, The Many Deaths of Norman Spittal.

Jeremy Banks was born on in London on 10 May 1959. He attended Hounslow Borough College and then Maidstone College of Art, before becoming a professional cartoonist in 1980, the year he sold his first cartoon to the
Evening Standard. Since then, his work has appeared in numerous publications, including Punch, Private Eye, the Daily Express, the Mail on Sunday, The Week and Men Only, and his cartoons have been syndicated around the world. Since 1989, he has been the daily pocket cartoonist for the Financial Times. He has published a number of books, including Cubes (1982), The Many Deaths of Norman Spittal (1995), Big Fat Sleepy Cat (2001) and The Dewsburys (2006). In 1997, he made a series of 156 short films based on The Many Deaths of Normal Spittal in conjunction with the award-winning animator, Bob Godfrey. Between 2002 and 2012, he was a float designer for the Nice Carnival.

Jeremy Banks has twice been voted ‘Pocket Cartoonist of the Year’ by the Cartoon Art Trust, in 2008 and 2012. He currently lives in Greenwich with his wife Elaine and their four children.
