The present cartoon was published a few months before start of the Imperial Conference, which was held in London in August 1946. Due to the War, it was the first such meeting since 1937. Leslie Illingworth appears hopeful that the Conference will demonstrate the continued need for friendship and cooperation between members of the Commonwealth in the post-war era. Those featured in the cartoon having their palms read are the British Prime Minister Clement Attlee, the Australian Prime Minister Ben Chifley, the New Zealand Minister of Finance Walter Nash, Prime Minister of Canada William Lyon Mackenzie King, and the Prime Minster of the Union of South Africa Jan Smuts.
