Diary, 1914, November 10th.
Began small copy of Turner's 'Fighting Téméraire' for having been asked to do this I am like the beggar who puts on his personal description of beggary – "The smallest donation thankfully received." I have done this replica once before and the same notes for it are helping me with this No. 2.

Diary, 1914, December 4th.
Completed and sent off little copy (the second I have done) of Turner's Téméraire" which to-day I received cheque (£20) for, and £20 in these days of war's alarms is something.
Made one or two calls on galleries; one Bond Street man told me he was losing fifty pounds a week! It must spell ruin to many.
Went through more tribulation with the oculist, but I fear it is not much good. I must be content to weep through my latter days!
