H G Wells, rented Easton Glebe in Dunmow from 1910-1928 and it was during this time that Wells had a 10 year affair with Rebecca West. Easton Glebe was on the Easton Lodge estate which belonged to his friend and fellow socialist the Countess of Wessex.
